For many, it was the worst kept secret all evening. Thankfully, no one seemed to mind. Spirits were high, expectations were higher. Reports surfaced late Tuesday that Bob Weir, slated for a performance at the historic “Mother Church,” Ryman Auditorium the following day, had in fact, joined Phish onstage during their soundcheck prior to Tuesday’s performance.
A bubbly atmosphere throughout the venue was reflective of the first set. The light-hearted afair led to free high-fives and roaring applause as those dreams were quickly realized. Following the band’s first act of the second set — which included a uniquely placed “Julius,” followed quickly by a standard rendition of “Fuego” that segued nicely into “My Friend, My Friend” — Weir led the VT-based jamband Goliaths into a series of Phish debuts, beginning the appearance with “Samson & Delilah” and closing the set with “Playin’ In The Band,” respectfully.
Don’t take our word for it; give this first-hand audience footage a closer look!
