Trey and Page join Phil & Friends
April 15-17, 199 | Warfield Theatre, San Francisco
By Matt Bowers
Today’s edition of Throwback Thursday takes us back to April of 1999 when worlds collided in a huge way as Phil Lesh and Friends were joined by Page McConnell and Trey Anastasio of Phish for a once in a lifetime 3 night stand at the Warfield in San Francisco. The recordings of these shows shine with energy, and are an amazing time capsule of the first time members of the Grateful Dead and Phish collaborated in this magnitude. Trey and Steve Kimock trading solos over Phil’s basslines and Page’s piano fills are what dreams are made of, and these guys bring new life and freshness to the classic songs we all know and love. The Viola Lee Blues at the beginning of video posted below is the stuff of legend, and if you are a fan of either the Grateful Dead or Phish it is a must listen.
