To fans of Yes, the current 2025 lineup that played the Roxy in ATL on 10/24 provided a fabulous performance reminiscent of the band in their heyday of the 70’s and mid-80’s.
Led by longtime guitarist Steve Howe, the band features lead vocalist Jonathan Davison, Geoff Downes on keyboards, Billy Sherwood on bass, and Jay Schellen on drums.
Davison’s voice has great range and clarity, similar to original vocalist Jon Anderson in his prime. It is amazing how similar their voices are. Sherwood was hand-picked as original bassist Chris Squire’s replacement by Squire himself. Davison and Sherwood provided some outstanding vocal harmonies.
Howe has lost none of his chops, and included many new supplemental fills and improvisations during the night.
One of many highlights was “Soon”, which featured the intro from “The Gates of Delirium”. The band also played their iconic Fragile album from top to bottom, which shined a light on how dynamic the record is and how it holds up in 2025.
The stage backdrop featured art and video by longtime Yes illustrator Roger Dean, whose signed work was also available at the merch table (of which I purchased a print).
For a father-son to witness the newest iteration of the band, it was indeed a night to remember.
