After coming down from the Summerfest hangover, Milwaukee’s (called Milwacky by the band) newest venue (Vivarium) hosted the rising stars of Southern-indiea rock: Futurebirds out of Athens, GA. This band has a most devoted following that has only been amplified by their 2021 and 2022 collabs with My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel. Their current tour comes in conjunction with their eagerly anticipated EP, Easy Company which drops on August 9th. “Burnout”, “Colorado”, “Feel Less Bad”, and “Solitaires” were tracks from the EP that made the setlist, likely played for the first time as the tour had just started.
This band is known for their rambunctious interactions and a ramped up sound from three guitars. This show was no exception. Most of the patrons were clearly familiar with the deep catalog, but energy definitely went up a notch when the band played their more recognizable cuts: “Trippin, Rodeo”, “All Damn Night”, “Virginia Slims”, and show closer, “College Try”.
Their country-tinged rock sound that has ample melodies and blistering jams certainly make for a danceable and singable live show. They have catchy songwriting and are just all around fun guys. Futurebirds are a must see show if you like to have a good time.
