They’ll be joined by St. Pete standout, Holey Miss Moley and local DJ K Slat.
Displace is a psychedelic, funk-fusion outfit with disco and jazz influences based out of Tampa, Florida. Known for their high energy, catchy vocals, and stirring improvisational passages, this dynamic genre-blending platform is a highly sought after, rising talent in the Southeast.
Though founded in March 2012, their lineup was not finalized until September of 2013. Since making these permanent changes, Displace has been on a major upswing. In 2014 the band played AURA Music and Arts Festival, Zach Deputy’s Disc Jam, and Blackwater Music and Arts Festival all held at Spirit of The Suwannee Music Park. They also completed their first multi-state tour in August, which included their first out-of-state festival at Soulshine Music Festival outside of Asheville, NC.
2015 was a great year with out of state shows and an appearance at Gasparilla Music Festival sharing the stage with acts like Modest Mouse, Mute Math and Gogol Bordello. The band also released their self produced, debut album, “Eureka!” on April 10th to a packed house at Crowbar, in their hometown of Tampa! Having completed a 7 night residency at The Hog’s Breath Saloon in Key West in June, and playing a huge set at Suwannee Hulaween directly after The String Incident on Halloween night, they only played a few shows the remainder of the year while they wrote new material for their sophomore album which will be released in the 2016.
The first quarter of 2016 is jam packed followed by almost 3 months off to finish their 2nd album with a release date set for late June. Following the album release will be their first national tour going into August.
The band has been direct support to Dumpstaphunk, Marco Benevento, TAUK, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, The Heavy Pets, Earphunk, and The Malah to name a few.
The Crowbar is my favorite Tampa venue. It’s big enough to hold an epic party, but intimate enough to maintain a connection with the crowd. I’ve spent countless nights on both sides of that stage, most notably for Snarky Puppy’s sold out show in 2014. I vividly remember standing outside afterward and envisioning doing the same thing with my own band some day. I call the Crowbar home for my student showcases, as well as for Displace.” Chris Sgammato, Displace
Hailing from the east side GA town of Augusta, FUNK YOU is an outgoing burst of energy that is continually climbing their way to the top of the music scene. This “funk” oriented outfit projects multiple musical styles focusing mainly on dance driven grooves with powerful clean vocals. Incorporating intriguing musical composition, tasteful lyrics, and crowd captivating live performances, FUNK YOU is surely to make an imprint on your musical taste.
Voodoo Visionary hails from the dirty south musical mecca of Atlanta. Their improvisational funk dance music delicately balances a tight rhythm section featuring deep grooving bass and funky drum beats with diverse and dexterous keys and masterful guitar licks to create a sound the group calls psychofunk. Influenced by a wide array of artists such as Parliament Funkadelic, the Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, and Medeski Martin and Wood, Voodoo Visionary has a uniquely blended sound that’s guaranteed to put the ‘oogie in yo boogie.
The band is made up of Dennis Dowd (keys), Jimmy Lynch (bass), Scott MacDonald (vocals), Mac Schmitz (drums), and Mike Wilson (guitar). Wilson, Schmitz and Lynch have been playing together for over 8 years, during which time they built a unique chemistry that allows for exceptional improvisation during live shows. MacDonald joined the group in July 2013 as the lead vocalist and Voodoo Visionary began writing new music and playing shows immediately. Dowd was added to the band in March 2014 providing a missing link that enhanced the band’s distinctive sound, and the group has since taken off around the Atlanta music scene.
Voodoo Visionary released their debut album, Spirit of the Groove in March 2015. Over the past two years, while playing across the southeast, the band has shared the stage with acts such as Col. Bruce Hampton, Zach Deputy, Earphunk, Roosevelt Collier, Jerry Joseph, and Futurebirds. The band performed at the RAW Artists Atlanta showcase in September 2014 at Terminal West, made a live radio and TV appearance on WUGA’s It’s Friday program, and in May 2015 made their major festival debut at Counterpoint Music Festival near Rome, GA.
Holey Miss Moley
Holey Miss Moley is a nine piece Funk-Flavored Rock-Soul Infused Groove Factory based out of Everywhere, Florida (St.Petersburg to Orlando). Their high-energy sound is reminiscent of old school 70’s funk melded with elements of Disco, Jazz, Soul and Hip-hop creating a superb fusion that delights and energizes the crowd getting people up and dancing all night!
The musicians in Holey Miss Moley have collaborated together for years and it shows through their tight-knit sound and well orchestrated music. Even better, they enjoy playing together and it creates an atmosphere of funky fun for everyone.
The band has recently been focused on spreading their wings throughout Florida playing festivals like Hulaween, Orange Blossom Jamboree, Connection Festival, Roosevelt Collier’s Getdown and Zach Deputy’s Disc Jam at Suwannee, Tropical Heatwave, Earthdance and Hometeam events.
Currently they are working on recording their music! You can expect a live EP by the end of the year and their first studio album by spring of 2016.
Universal Sigh is a high energy, metamorphic rock show. Hailing from Athens, GA the foursome features a two-guitar attack and driving rhythm section, producing versatile music which reflects a deep fondness for artists such as Radiohead, Snarky Puppy, and Umphrey’s McGee. Influenced by a myriad of musical styles, the quartet has crafted a diverse catalog, which includes both lyrical tunes and instrumental arrangements. Each song is a voyage, with harmonious melodies soaring through epic peaks and dramatic descents into electrifying funk grooves. Fluid and dynamic, the Sigh is equipped with an abundance of compositions to energize any musical atmosphere.
Universal Sigh’s guitarist and drummer Pace and Jones Maynard, developed together as young musicians playing long hours in their parents’ basement. In high school, Jones met songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Terry, and the two took playing together like fish to water. The expansive music scene in Athens paved the way for the band to meet Austin Parker, a soulful vocalist with a love for laying down the bass. Pace, Steve, Jones, and Austin have been at the forefront of all song writing and live performances. However, the band frequently collaborates original music with special guests, including full brass sections, percussion, and guest vocalists. Their openness allows every show to be a special surprise.
May 2016 promises the anticipated release of Universal Sigh’s first album, Atoms & Void. While improvisation is a staple component of the live show, Atoms & Void displays a thoughtfulness to innovatively diversify arrangements of rock songs, blues tunes, and futuristic jazz alike. The debut album explores the uncanny nature of song structure and provides lyrical content inspired by the turmoil and beauty of the human condition. The core four presents Atoms & Void, as a material extension to connect the listener to the inherent music within everyone.
Tweed inspires and excites with music fueled from high energy performance and improvisation. Just as their namesake fabric of mingling colors and textures, Tweed has interwoven a psychedelic web of funk, rock and electronica. The band was formed at University of Delaware and now calls Philadelphia their stomping ground. Their collaboration can take listeners from multi-layered visions through the psyche to sweaty, raging dance parties driven by their own incessant beat.
With multiple tours and countless festivals under their belt, Tweed has proven they can fill larger rooms across the East coast with precision and style. Bust out your dancing shoes, this ain’t your grandfather’s tweed!
