Happy Birthday to the King of Techno
By: Randy Harris
Happy 44th birthday to Richie Hawtin! Born in the UK and raised in Canada, Mr. Hawtin (aka Plastikman) became a driving force in the early Detroit techno scene in the early ‘90s. Since the mid-‘90s, his focus has been drawn towards minimal techno, and he remains a leader and innovator of the genre. Along with touring the biggest clubs in the world, Mr. Hawtin boasts 13 albums and 9 DJ Mix compilations. Following Tiesto’s landmark performance at the 2004 Olympics Opening Ceremony, Mr. Hawtin collaborated with Enzo Cosimi on a new track to be played at the 2006 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony called “9.20.” Most recently, Mr. Hawtin has been known for his ENTER. Production concept, consisting of five specially designed rooms and a wide array of electronic music. Towards the end of 2013, Mr. Hawtin performed under his old moniker Plastikman in New York City, which inspired him to reconnect with his roots and create a brand new LP under the alias. Look for this release’s digital arrival on June 10, 2014. Happy birthday Richie! Written by Ragin’ Randy Harris .
