Asheru | So Amazing

Washington, DC – MAY 30TH, 2014 – Asheru has been very busy since releasing  “Sleepless In Soweto” in late 2013, including a South African tour with Raheem  Devaughn. The Kennedy Center hosted the One Mic Global Hip-Hop Festival in  Washington, DC, which saw Asheru perform at the opening ceremony and his own event  at Busboys and Poets. Capping off these accomplishments is Asheruʼs appointment as a US Global Hip Hop Cultural Ambassador, sponsored by the US Department of State and the University of North Carolina. Asheru will travel to Bangladesh for a month in the fall of 2014 as a cultural ambassador and teaching artist.

Asheru has been taking regular trips to South Africa over the past few years, and  recorded much of his “Sleepless In Soweto” album in Johannesburg. While working  there, Asheru and Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP) collaborated on many shows and tracks,  including the hypnotic, South African house groove, “So Amazing.” Crafted by veteran  South African producer Thasman, the track features vocals from HHP, Omar Hunter El,  and esteemed vocalist, DJ and producer, Harrison Crump. The video, directed by Nicky  Campos TV, was shot in Johannesburg on Asheruʼs recent promotional tour, and  captures the vitality and diversity that makes South Africa a dynamic society.

Both the track and the music video are getting heavy rotation in South Africa on MTV Base, Channel O, and have been climbing the Metro FM Top Charts for weeks, where it is currently at #2. The Song will also be featured on HHPʼs upcoming album release, “Donʼt Disturb This Groove”, due out later this year.
