The Barley House
Dallas,TX – Nov.7, 2013
Gritty blues driven Southern-Jam-Rock took over the Barley House located along SMU Blvd this past Thursday. Brother Bagman, a Kansas City based quartet has been rocking the Midwest region for years and with four studio releases under their belt they’ve gained some attention most notably at Wakarusa Music Festival and at the International Blues Competition in Kansas City where they were runner-up from winning the overall crown.
Covers like “Up On Cripple Creek” (The Band) and “Chilly Water” (Widespread Panic) set the tone for the night, before the group moved into the soulful blues original “Cliff Groove” (See video above). The night continued with nods to the greats spanning from funk “Cissy Strut” (The Meters) to classic rock with “Soulshine” (The Allman Brothers). Landon Leist’s soulful vocal melodic hooks and Warren Haynes meets Joe Bonamassa guitar chops were met with a strong rhythm section by Cliff Moore (Bass) and Cole Harvey (Drums). The addition of Damon Parker on the keyboards roughly three years ago, they credit as a major contributing factor in rounding out the sound to the former power-trio, which was evident throughout the group’s set, adding an extra layer that rounded out each song.
The group’s seven years of experience is directly reflected in the chemistry and tightness in every verse, chorus, and jam. These rockers will be back in Dallas soon, we will be sure to keep you in the loop. Until then enjoy the Free Download of “Mytime” off Brother Bagman’s album, “Rise Above” (2010). Also, be sure to check out the pictures and video of “Cliff Groove” shot by Alec Fredenburg.
A special thanks to Michael Kervin at Time 2 Fly Music for keeping the jam scene thriving with rising and top acts from across the country.
