Widowspeak and Neu Blume Deliver Indie Magic at Milwaukee’s Newest Venue

Photos and Review by Stephen Bloch

On Saturday night, Milwaukee’s newest venue, The Argo (yes, they are getting mentioned a lot) hosted a perfectly paired combination of indie folk acts, Detroit via Phoenix’s Neu Blume and Brooklyn, New York’s Widowspeak.  This wasn’t a run of the middle indie show. This was a special pairing. While there was ample dreaminess in the vocals and a chill vibe, there was also an abundance of jangly and twangy guitar, often deviating into an all on assault, particularly from Robert Earl Thomas’ Rickenbacker.  It’s hard to separate these two bands as they really have a commingling of their sounds.  Neu Blume is touring in support of their 2025 stellar release Let it Win while Widowspeak is out there performing exceptional material from their 20 year catalog, especially from their 2026 release Roses.
