Can’t Stop Tha Phunk
Since Fall of 2009 I’ve been following the fast paced growth and progression of Earpunk, believing from the first time I heard them that they had the potentional to explode on the live music circuit with their aggresive high energy progressive funk/jam/jazz New Orleans style rock.
The band has managed to grow and develop their own unique sound at a rapid pace in just a couple of years leaving them in the realm of some of my favorite Nola acts; The Meters, The Neville Brothers, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Papa Grows Funk, Flow Tribe, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Rebirth Brass Band, and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, among other Crescent City bands. While some of these acts are still touring, some are turning the page as new musical exploration is pursued (for example Papa Grows Funk’s upcoming hiatus). Earphunk will be a driving youthful force in the continuation and preservation of New Orleans music that is enjoyed at a national level.
Last year they managed to tour extensively throughout the United States stopping in 120 different cities in the past 12 months including some top notch festivals including Purple Hatter’s Ball and Bear Creek Music Festival. Recently they performed two separate time slots at Wakarusa Music Festival, one of which included their rarely performed Daft Phunk set, covering Daft Punk songs with an incredibly funky spin, all while respecting the integrity of the original songs. (Check out HD video of “Da Phunk” at House of Blues New Orleans HERE)
Just last week the group announced the following dates with Lettuce. Great things lie ahead for these guys, support these up and coming musicians who will carry on the New Orleans live music torch for decades to come eventually inspiring future generations to continue the longevity of NOLA funk.

Dallas, TX Video Recap
Here is a short audience shot video compilation I put together of Earphunk’s performance on April 4th, 2013 at Three Links (formerly Lagrange) in Dallas, TX. The venue had just reopened and Earphunk really brought the place down that Thursday night. The highlight is the “9-5” which features two sax players from local reggae act The Effinays.
