Many of us have slurred drunken promises to friends that we will be better about making more time to hang out. Lamb of God and Mastodon actually delivered on this fragile verbal agreement that they made years ago in celebration of the twentieth birthday of their albums, Ashes of the Wake and Leviathan.
Randy Blythe, lead singer of Lamb of God, reflected on the improbability that both bands would be organized enough, let alone “among the living” to tour these albums again two decades later. Metal fans in Atlanta rejoiced that this slim chance was a success, and with the added bonus of Kerry King from Slayer included on the lineup.
Much has changed in the world since August 31st, 2004, the release date of both albums. However, the response to this music has remained the same; massive pits of adoring fans who could mouth every lyric and air strum every iconic riff.
