Jeff “Skunk” Baxter has done it all: an original guitarist of Steely Dan with many iconic parts (first video is a snippet of his solo on “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”), a member of Doobie Brothers and 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee with the band, he performed with Jimi Hendrix / sold him his first Stratocaster in NYC, and he has sessioned with many artists including Dolly Parton (“9 to 5”), Rod Stewart, Donna Summer, Ringo Starr and Joni Mitchell. And, oh yeah, after being a rock guitarist he decided to be a defense consultant and he has advised U.S. members of Congress on missile defense.
Seeing him perform Decatur GA’s Eddie’s Attic was a night filled with stories, blistering guitar riffs and cool interpretations of Steely Dan tunes and a honky-tonk inspired “China Grove”. His first solo album (Speed of Heat) was a big part of the performance and proof that at 75 years old, Baxter is still as mind-blowing of a musician as he was in the 1970s.
