Shaky Knees his one of the best festivals in the U.S. due to its focused and quality lineup choices that includes blue chip, tried-and-true rock festival staples and many up-and-coming and new discoveries. Kudos to the team for putting so much thought into the lineups each year. Get your tickets here!
That being said, festivals can sometimes be overwhelming so we tried to narrow down a few of the artists we are looking forward to seeing this year at Shaky Knees as you are putting together your schedule.
Queens of the Stone Age: We are looking forward to finally catching QOTSA after their last ATL show was missed by our editor and his wife having a child. One of the most full-throttle but precise bands in rock, this is easily our most anticipated show, in part due to the quality of the new release, In Times New Roman…
Men I Trust: A Canadian trio that has a jazz-indie sound that we think will really resonate in an outdoor atmosphere. Akin to Mac Demarco, this band has a down-tempo sound that should be one of the best reprieves of the distorted guitars of the weekend. The key to a great festival is balance, and this is the perfect yin to the hard-rock yang.
Waxahatchee: Aka Katie Crutchfield, Waxahatchee is one of the most intriguing new indie artists with a captivating live aesthetic that we think will blend perfectly with the vibes on Sunday afternoon.
Foo Fighters: We fully expect Dave Grohl & Co. to lean into their new material and earlier heavy roots songs, as they are working with so much material. Also, there is a reason why the world loves Dave Grohl. He is an excitable front man that captivates an audience for 2.5 hours. This will be the first Atlanta introduction to Josh Freese, the band’s new drummer after the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins.
Pond: These Australian psych rockers are known for their energetic shows, and we are very much excited to see them after they could not make the festival last year.
Arcade Fire: Epic is the best word to describe an Arcade Fire show, and we fully expect nothing short of epic during a Friday headlining set. Expect singer Win Butler to lead the crowd in full harmony over the course of their 2 hour timeslot.
Dinosaur Jr.: Maybe bring your earplugs because Singer / guitarist J. Mascis does not hold back, but this band is the real deal when it comes to pre-grunge, indie founding fathers of the Pacific Northwest. Fun fact: J Mascis was offered to join Nirvana by Kurt Cobain.. TWICE.
Kevin Morby: One of the most versatile indie artists with a band that truly shines live, we cannot wait to see him at the newly-placed Criminal Records stage.
Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram: There has been so much hype about Ingram as the new best thing in blues guitar. And as a native of Mississippi, he appears to be as authentic as it gets.
