Photos and Review by Stephen Bloch

On Friday night, Black Joe Lewis lit up Milwaukee’s newest venue The Vivarium. A packed house made their way as close to the stage as possible to get a full on face melting and foot tapping night of R&B inspired rockin blues. Hailing out of Austin, TX, Joe is definitely carrying the torch of the Texas rock and blues greats, including Stevie Ray Vaughn. The evening was filled with his signature blend of gritty guitar riffs, pounding drums, and deep funky bass lines.

Highlights of the evening included electrifying renditions of fan favorites “Sugarfoot” and “Booty City,” which had the entire crowd dancing and singing along. Lewis’s impassioned guitar solos soared above the pulsating rhythm section, showcasing his virtuosity and undeniable talent as a musician. The crowd roared when he lifted his guitar up to his mouth and performed a blistering solo.

But it wasn’t just about the music—the band’s stage presence and chemistry were palpable.  The band was clearly having a blast and Lewis’s charisma and infectious energy kept the crowd entertained through even the longest jams.
