Mike Cooley is without a doubt one of the best modern songwriters, which is abundantly clear in his contributions to the Drive-By Truckers. The best environment to truly appreciate the vivid imagery and precision of his songs is in a stripped-down, acoustic environment. You cannot get more intimate than Decatur GA’s Eddie’s Attic, where Cooley performed two sold-out nights in early December, covering tunes such as “Birthday Boy”, “Carl Perkin’s Cadillac”, “Gravity’s Gone” and many others. Without the overdrive southern wall of sound that DBT brings in a live environment, Cooley’s solo show really gives an opportunity for the audience to immerse themselves in his lyrics. His solo show is a reminder of the immense body of work he has created, and we hope to see more of his solo performances in years to come.
