On Friday evening, Berkeley’s UC Theater played host to two stellar Afro funk jazz acts. Sun Hop Fat, hailing out of Oakland, kicked things off with an in-your-face hour of jams. The packed house knew these locals were here to rev it up. The West Coast ying was then met with the East Coast yang of Daptone artist, The Budos Band. The band seamlessly navigated through their entire catalog with a 20+ song show, melting together the sounds of Africa, NOLA, and good old American rock with psychedelia found all around. Berkeley was a perfect space for their unique sound.
