Megadeth are kings of thrash metal, and it was clear fans were thrilled to see Dave Mustaine lead the charge for the trailblazers live in what he mentioned was “the largest Megadeth show ever in Atlanta.” Mustaine and his band members James LoMenzo (Bass), Kiko Loureiro (Guitar), and Dirk Verbeuren (Drums) most definitely brought the headliner energy to the show. “Symphony of Destruction” and “Holy Wars…The Punishment Due” were some high water marks of the night.
The Mongolian folk-metal band The Hu must be experienced live to truly appreciate. They play with such intensity, performing with traditional Mongolian instrumentation alongside ‘Mongolian throat singing.’ They call their style of music “hunnu rock,” hu inspired by the Hunnu, an ancient Mongol/Turkic empire, known as Hünnü in Mongolia. Some of their tunes “Wolf Totem” and “Yuve Yuve Yu” were superb live, almost feeling like we were prepping for a Lord of the Rings-style metal battle.
