Artists to Experience at Shaky Knees in Atlanta (Festival Preview)

By Tyler Sterling

With a diverse mix of talent in the lineup, Shaky Knees 2019 has created a major buzz around Atlanta. Each year, festival goers place their trust in this weekend of music and it has yet to disappoint. Shaky Knees founder, Tim Sweetwood and his team have created something special over the past seven years by consistently wrangling together some of the most exciting indie acts from around the country.

Whether you’re only really familiar with the main headliners or you’ve been mapping out your festival weekend for months, it can be tough to choose which bands to go see with such a well-rounded schedule. This is a good problem to have. Check out our list of highly-anticipated artists if find yourself suffering from a case of choice-anxiety.

Tame Impala (Sunday 8:30 – 10:30)

They’re beloved for their atmospheric psych-rock jams and with a new album on the horizon, the audience will likely be exposed to a new palette of sounds coming from the Peachtree stage this Sunday night.

 Sharon Van Etten (Friday 3:40 – 4:25)

She’s well-known for her sharp songwriting and heartfelt vocal delivery. We’re very much looking forward to hearing songs from her recent critically acclaimed album, “Remind Me Tomorrow”.

 Black Lips (Friday 4:25 – 5:25)

Atlanta will be need to bring a high amount of energy to welcome their hometown garage-rock heroes.  We’ll be expecting plenty of guitar reverb, howling vocals, and friendly shoving within the crowd.

Jim James (Saturday 4:30 – 5:30)

This wouldn’t be a complete list without mentioning the songwriter whose lyrics inspired the name of this festival. The phrase “Shaky Knees” was borrowed from his song “Steam Engine” that was written for My Morning Jacket’s third studio album. His shows are about as moving as live music gets.

Maggie Roggers (Sunday 7:30 – 8:30)

Although relatively new to the festival-circuit, she has captivated audiences of all sizes with her candid and spirited performances. The layered instrumentals paired with her moody voice will be the perfect sound to bring the sun down around the Atlanta skyline.

We hope that you’re looking forward to a brief escape from life’s responsibilities while enjoying incredible three days of music. We hope to see you there.
