One of LMD’s favorite artists is Sinkane. He tends to fly under the radar, but for hardcore lovers of music, he seems to always come up in conversation. Born in Sudan & based in NYC, Ahmed Gallab aka Sinkane has developed his own brand of pysch-soul influenced by everyone from the Grateful Dead to D’Angelo & more. His previous release Mean Love was received with considerable critical acclaim from NPR, Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan & more. His live shows are an infectious blend of tightly controlled grooves, improvisation & beautiful, subtle effects. Gallab is a ridiculous musician. He fronts Sinkane as the guitarist/vocalist, but also has a couple small nord synths around him.
The newest record Life & Livin’ It has already seem some praise by some of the top music critics out here. NPR is currently streaming it for free. Click here to check it out.
This is a record that David Byrne would (and probably already does, b/c he listens to everything) love. I’m serious. It’s that good. I think it’s safe to say that this record will be on top of almost every “Best of 2017” list in December.
The record comes out officially tomorrow. Toss it on and transform your Friday into an Africana groovetown of love.
Here’s the video for “Telephone” off the new record:
