There is no doubt that Bedside is one of the hottest up and coming music acts out of Miami. Bedside is a horn driven producer DJ duo comprised of Travis Acker and Trace Barfield. Travis commandingly controls the turntables, while Trace effortlessly spouts sinews of sexy improvisational trumpet notes providing an exotic and entrancing layer. The head production master of Bedside, Trace Barfield, sums up the project’s mantra in a quick statement, “funky music for funky people!”

Bedside’s debut EP, One Night With You, is set to be released in early December on Digable Digital.

Travis Acker has a long standing history as a South Florida musician in multiple live bands. It was an exciting transition when he decided to delve into the world of electronic music production. The traces of his organic playing over the years resonate wonderfully within the electronic dance music of Bedside. Travis had some sentiments to share in regards to the process of moving from live to digital. “My background has always been in improvisational live music. The idea of leaving the groove open for interpretation depending on the audience and energy is a very romantic idea that puts the emphasis on experiencing the here and now. I have found that DJing music also can carry some of these sentiments. The overall goal remains the same, but the digital tools available now allow for quicker idea development and the ability to take that idea to a performable level in only a matter of days”, he so eloquently expressed.

III Points Festival at Mana Wynwood

The duo has performed at past festivals such as Aura Music Festival and Suwanee Hulaween, and has gotten crowds dancing at numerous gigs around Miami. In addition to that, they have also assembled a larger than life full live band sprinkled with only the best in South Florida local music talents. It is an absolutely eclectic full live band, which is simply electric in concert. In addition to the core 2 members of Travis & Trace, you have Robert Smiley on Saxophone, Sahara Kai Smith on vocals & sassiness, Charles Gardner on keys, and Steve Kornicks on percussion. The full live band incarnation of Bedside played live for the first time at III Points Music, Arts, and Tech Festival in Wynwood, Miami last month. What resulted was a mammoth sound which blew everyone away. The publication Consequence of Sound raved about the set, stating that “This Miami duo brought the Sector 3 stage at III Points Festival to life with its incorporation of house, conga, and soul music. It was like listening to a perfect story of a DJ making love to a live band.”

Bedside recently put out a ‘Fall Mix 2015’ on their Soundcloud, and it will add brilliant grooves to your day:

Also, in order to whet everyone’s appetite for their upcoming debut EP, they released the title track “One Night With You” as well. The track has a seductive soulful nu-disco house feel to it, and should likely take on a life of its own in a live setting. The first single off Bedside’s upcoming EP, entitled ‘One Night With You’ can be heard here.

Saturday night (11/28), Bedside’s live band will be performing at Bardot featuring live trumpet, sax, flute, percussion, keys, bass and vocals. This will only be the 2nd time this live band incarnation is taking the stage, after their phenomenally successful III Points performance. It is a dance party not to be missed. This is the place to be musically in Miami over Thanksgiving Weekend. Come out and get down!
