Live at the Hamilton in DC – Concert Preview

ALO

Since 1998 Animal Liberation Orchestra (ALO) have been generating well-written song arrangements that come to life live in concert. This a band that writes poetic pieces of art, ones that make you pause for a moment and reflect. The range varies from upbeat happy songs with swanky piano hooks such as “Maria” to more pop geared tracks like “Girl I Wanna Lay You Down”.

The art of balance is a theme that seems to continue to follow ALO as they go on their 15th year together.

While I enjoy their thoughtful lyrics and well done production on their albums we all know that live is where this band thrives. I caught Dan Lebowitz on tour with Kimock twice in the past few months and it has been great timing with the whole Dead 50 celebrations going on. Dan is one of my favorite vocalists this summer hands down, the man is simply amazing. His guitar skills are just as good too. His talents alongside genius Zach Gill (keys, uke, vocals) opens the door to lots of potential magic. Steve Adams and David Brogan bring a sound I really like from the backbone of a band. They react well to what is going on without being too loose.

Their new album, Tangle of Time,  is one of the best to date for sure, don’t miss them performing at The Hamilton this Thursday in DC with support from Fruition. See below for our free ticket giveaway. Tickets for the concert can be purchased here.

Fruition

This band has been on our radar since I was in high school. Recordings of them at intimate settings throughout Portland and the great West Coast were frequently circulated amongst our group of friends (thanks Thompson). This group is really dropping jaws on the live music circuit for their infectious and authentic musical presentation of bluegrass music with their own little twist.

Sharing a common love of music, whiskey and life on the road, Fruition were originally brought together by the lure of adventure. For the last five years, the Portland, OR string infused quintet has racked up the miles playing sold out shows in their adopted hometown and garnering new fans across the country. On July 30th, Fruition will release Just One of Them Nights, an album that finds the band tackling the many struggles and successes that come along with living a vagabond lifestyle and the search for artistic clarity.
