LiveMusicDaily is pleased to announce that we will be teaming up an incredible lineup of musicians performing upbeat takes on the Grateful Dead catalog. This lineup features some of the best regional and national musicians in the country taking one of of the most sacred music catalogs in the history of live music.

Just last month I witnessed one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen at Gypsy Sally’s with all three bands performing their own original music; Trongone Band, Ron Holloway Band, and DJ Williams Projekt. These bands throw-down in top-notch fashion with a chemistry that goes well beyond your typical live music jamband. The interplay within each group is exceptionally tight, moving together as one unit. Ron sat in with DJ Williams for several songs that night and took DC’s Georgetown neighborhood to epic heights that night. To add to the energy will be Keller William’s backup vocalists from his Grateful Gospel to pack an extra bunch to the lyrical genius of the Dead.

This isn’t just your typical Dead cover night. Check out each artist below and be on the lookout for an exclusive interview & more shortly!

The Trongone Band’s core consists of Father John, and sons Andrew and Johnny Trongone. The three of them have been playing and writing together since they can remember. Over the years they have developed one of the more unique dynamics witnessed in recent history, one that could only be forged through a lifetime of playing and learning together.

The past three years have been particularly fruitful as the band transitions into a nationally touring act playing original music. Their two year long Thursday night residency at Cary Street Café became a legendary Richmond staple. There was hardly a night when there was not a line around the block waiting to get in. These nights gave birth to live shows that are off the cuff and full of guest appearances that even surprised the band itself.

In that time they assembled the top Richmond musicians to round out the line up. The group has added full time members Ben White (The Former Champions) and Mark Ingraham (DJ Williams Projekt). This has allowed the group to solidify their unique sound that is heavily informed by the musical masters of yesteryear. With one foot in tradition and the other precariously perched on the cutting edge of what’s to come next, each next step is bound to be unique and exciting.

This hard work has garnered them the respect of their peers as well as one of the strongest followings in Richmond and surrounding areas. They have supported national and international touring acts such as: The Wailers, War, The Pimps of Joytime, Marhsall Tucker, and The Lee Boys. The Trongone Band has also has compelling and ongoing collaborations with DJ Williams, Ron Holloway (Allman Brothers, Warren Haynes Band), and Brock Butler.

In early 2015 The Trogone Band released their first EP “The Southside Sessions.” They are currently in the process of producing their first full length album. You can also find the band on their perpetually tour up and down the east coast playing club dates and festivals this spring and summer.

Williams signed a record contract in 2005 with Harmonized Records and later released on his own label, Projekt Records.

DJ is now recording his own licensing music under Projekt Produktions.

The young guitarist has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with John Legend, Dave Matthews Band, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Soulive, Levon Helm, Citizen Cope, Robert Randolph, Slick Rick, and many many more. With an emphasis on compelling melody, refined songwriting, and an extremely diverse musical palette, DJ Williams strives to push new boundaries as an up and coming guitar player. Just don’t let the name confuse you, because this musician is laying out grooves any “D.J.” would love to sample!

Not only is Ron one of the most dynamic saxaphonist alive, he is an integral part of the DC/Maryland/Virginia live music community and is known to sit-in with everyone. He always delivers a soulful packed punch to anything he gets his hands on. Having him play the Dead alongside these other musicians will be incredible. Ron remains one of the most humble and sought after sax players on the national live music circuit.

Ron Holloway is one of the busiest tenor saxophonist’s on today’s music scene in any genre! He has been touring internationally as a member of Susan Tedeschi’s Band but still finds time to appear as a frequent special guest of the Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes & Gov’t Mule, the Derek Trucks Band, Taj Mahal, and Little Feat. Most recently Ron performed with Peter Frampton, Bruce Hornsby, Bernie Worrell and Col. Bruce Hampton at the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam.
