We listed them on our shortlist of Artist to Watch in 2015 for a good reason. This new Major and the Monbacks album reinforces their presence as one of the best live gems that is just getting started. The track “Somedays” was recorded in Nashville, TN  at Welcome to 1979, one of the premier studios in the U.S. for vintage analog recordings that racked up eight Grammy Nominations this year and boasts a roster of clients that include Paul McCartney, Eric Burdon, Jason Isbell, Brendan Benson, and many more.

The Monbacks’ debut album merges twangy psychedelic pop, soaring 3 part harmonies, and the high energy and horn riff laden grit of southern soul, to create a unique blend of rock n roll. Twin brothers Neal and Cole Friedman founded what became Major and the Monbacks during high school in Norfolk, VA in 2008, teaming up with high school classmates Michael Adkins, Harry Schloeder, and Tyler West to form the core group that has driven the continued evolution of the band over the last 7 years. After college, the outfit transitioned to a full time touring band, embarking on a 5 month, 100+ date tour in 2014 that took the band 20,000 miles along the East Coast from Vermont down to Alabama.

Bosley

swstommyrevised-4

Bosley takes it back to the days where authentic performance and soul were critical to the success of an artist. A lot has changed since those days in the realm of radio and mainstream music. Bosley reinvigorates what we love about the classy soul of classic R&B laced tracks featuring killer horns, heavenly female backing vocals, and a stage presence that brings the songs to life.

Bosley Brown, has been writing and performing since childhood; his career accelerated in 2012 following the release of his outstanding debut album Honey Pigwhich won him a devoted fan base and garnered him growing critical acclaim. Named #1 on Baltimore Magazine’s Hip List, Bosley and his fabulous band channel eclectic influences from 40’s Swing to 60’s R&B to 80’s Hip Hop and continue to turn out unique, original pop music and blazing, high energy live performances. The brand new album The Dirty Dogs Radio Showwas released in March 2014 to rave reviews. Dance parties imminent.

Aztec Sun

Over the past two years Aztec Sun has hit the DC/Maryland/Virginia (DMV) scene in full stride with their funky live sets. The group is now a common fit on bills at several local venues in the nation’s capitol and surrounding areas teaming up with some solid acts on the bill. Get there early to catch their set Friday night!

From its inception in 2013, AZTEC SUN has grown into an 8-piece ensemble with a sound that evokes a classic ’70s feel all gussied up in a new school approach. In part driven by the band’s culturally diverse background, the timelessness of the band’s musical influences combined with lyrics lathered up in just enough heartbreak and weekend-anthem means that whether it’s the old-school R&B seduction, the uptown Funky grooves, or a pop-alicious hit that gets you going, there’s something for everyone.

The AZS FUNKtrain has made many stops throughout DC, MD, VA, and NY — Funk Parade, Velvet Lounge, Rock ‘n’ Roll Hotel, The Howard Theatre, Gypsy Sally’s as well as World of Beer in C’ville and Bar Nine in NYC (to name a few). In every performance, AZTEC SUN unleashes the full palette of its creative juices to connect with its audience and push the AZS mantra – “WHATEVER MAKES YOU DANCE”.
