Joe Russo’s Almost Dead
“Eyes of the World> King Solomon’s Marbles” • Flashback Friday
JRAD Freaks Ball XIII

By Mike Marsala
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead is on fire. This band is my favorite Dead project in years by far. DSO offers a recreation of their music with sharp precision. John K (formerly of DSO & a founder of the band) is clearly one of the better people on the scene at replicating Jerry’s sound, tone, and style. There are many more out there (Kimock = on point). The point isn’t a debate about Trey, John K, Warren, Jimmy, etc. Rather, my point here is to emphasize that Almost Dead IS DIFFERENT from previous endeavors at recreating the Dead’s catalog. In terms of bringing these songs to life in a way they’ve not been presented before, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead takes the cake, in my opinion.
“Eyes of the World” has become a highly acclaimed number for fans of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. Today let’s take a look back at an epic “Eyes of the World > King Solomons” from the band’s Freak Ball XIII to kick off the weekend.
Happy Friday folks, go catch some live music!
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead is not just a cast of jam band All-Stars playing half-rehearsed Dead covers. This is a group of seasoned musicians and, most importantly, friends, who have developed a shared sense of musical awareness and understanding from touring professionally for over ten years in various incarnations and outfits of jam.
