Dynamic Duo Releases
New Album – Game Theory
ASTRONAUT JONES (adj): born of both the past and future.(n): a DC/Baltimore-based groovemaking duo using vintage noisemakers and digital gear. Astronaut Jones describes their sound as
#ElectroloungeSoulstank – an evolving, always surprising marriage of live instruments and throwback sounds with modern production and electronic flavors.
Born out of a love of electronic music pioneers like Bonobo, Zero 7, and DC’s own Thievery Corporation, Max Kuzmyak and Satya Thallam began collaborating in 2013 on a new project combining those influences with classic R&B and jazz vibes. The initial result was the self-released Midground EP. The sound is laid back, hip, loungy, with all horns, guitars, keys, programming and production handled entirely by the duo. Shortly thereafter, Astronaut Jones was enlisted to compose music for two film projects. First was the short film Retirement (Tragedy Plus Time Productions), which was featured in the Washington Post, the local Fox affiliate, and On Tap Magazine. Next up was the original score for the feature-length documentary Dog by Dog (5414 Productions), due out later this year. The duo is currently at work on their next release, Foreground, with a more upbeat, harder-edged, funkier sound. “Game Theory,” the album’s first single, is scheduled for wide release in October 2014. The track features Frank Mitchell, Jr. (Thievery Corporation/See-I) and will be released with remixes from Fort Knox Recordings artists Omegaman and Empresarios. Astronaut Jones recently began a bi-weekly residency at Cusbah in Washington, DC, using it to hone their live set and collaborate with the area’s top musicians before moving on to larger venues along the East Coast in 2015.
