Mary off forthcoming album
By: Andrew McConnell
Moogatu’s first studio album is a well-produced and solid work that exhibits the fine interplay amongst band members. The group raised funds through Kickstarter to record at Mystery Ton Studios in Maryland, and the final piece of art is worth a deep listen.
As guitarists Chris Lee and Brian Raubacher embark on the open, power rock riffs, the connectivity of the guitarists in tandem is evident. Jacyna’s strong backbone style drumming mixes well with Zupruk’s bass lines. Of course, Brian Dodd’s sweeping organ comes in with menacing heat, a sound somewhat reminiscent of an early Aron Magner’s sound on the Disco Biscuits’ Uncivilized Area album. In the whole track, Mary offers catchy vocals coupled by a powerhouse of instrumental geniuses who have a love for crafty, progressive-jam fused rock n roll.
I don’t want to spoil the rest of the album for you all, but I can say that Ron Holloway on sax is always a winner! This album is definitely a “start-to-finish” type album, which has seemingly become a lost art in this day and age.
