Thievery Corporation

 Thievery-Corporation1

This past weekend Thievery Corporation joined an outstanding line-up of musicians for a performance at Day Zero in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. For those of us who missed out, we can not help but crave more Thievery Corporation. By drawing on elements of sounds from across the globe, godfathers Eric Hilton & Rob Garza weave musical masterpieces unlike any producers in the game.

Displaying their true prowess as visionary musicians, they strive to bring these studio tracks to new life in the live setting.  While many on the live music scene aim to be the best, few can match the stage presence Thievery Corporation exudes in concert. The vast amount of raw talent on-stage during a given show, vocally speaking is beyond description. Rootz, Zeebo, Mr Lif, Ras Puma, LouLou, Sleepy Wonder, Natalia Clavier, and their host of vocalists take you on a journey that connects with the inner-soul.

Garza & Hilton’s sonic landscapes are complimented by a strong force of musicians. To begin, Rob Myers versatile work on sitar & his carefully calculated use of effects on guitar always fit in unison with the duo. All the while, Frank Mitchell’s soaring sax lines sink in as Ashish Vyas lays down powerful bass lines for the dynamic drumming of Congo Sanchez . The constantly growing group of traveling members is a phenomena in of itself.

On this “Countdown to Zero” mix we explore Rob Garza’s eclectic musical tastes. In this instance Psychedelica collides with latin samplings. The result is nothing shy of another Garza masterpiece.  This one is a MUST listen.

DAY ZERO (Countdown to Zero)

Thievery Corporation have grown very strong roots in the Rivera Maya over the years, but have never had a chance to play a liveshow in the area. DAY ZERO is proud to be presenting the first live show in Playa del Carmen with Thievery Corporation.

“This is a mix of some of my favorite tripped out, orchestral, brazilian/latin, and cinematic music from the past, way before the current electronic music explosion. There’s many beautiful gems from all corners of the globe, these are the kinds of sounds that inspired Eric and myself when we started Thievery Corporation. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed making this mix. We look forward to seeing you in Mexico celebrating our galactic journey;) at Day Zero!

Ahau,” – Rob Garza – Thievery Corporation
