Live at Slipp Inn in Dallas, TX Dec.15

Slipp Inn is definitely one of the most intimate settings in Dallas to catch some quality live electronic music, in fact it was named “Best Place to Dance” the past 2 years by D Magazine. Sunday may not seem like your regular night to hit up a concert, but Slipp Inn is the exception. Resident DJ Julio Rivera, DJ S.O.U.L.JAH, puts down a variety of electronic, hip-hop, and reggae beats every Sunday. Earlier this month in proper DJ S.O.U.L.JAH fashion, special guests were included on the regular Sunday night bill. Following stops in Austin and Houston, Rex Riddem of Nappy Riddem concluded his tour with at DJ set at the Slipp Inn.

Troy McLean (Stage name Rex Riddem) is a guitarist and vocalist of the emerging reggae outfit, Nappy Riddem,  from DC that will be making their mark on the Northeast Reggae scene and beyond this coming year. Growing up on classic rock influences like Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead, coupled with an interest of reggae legends, Troy has an eclectic taste in music that is evident in his live DJ sets, spinning anything from Daft Punk to Toots & Maytals. This fit perfectly on the bill with DJ S.O.U.L.Jah from Dallas who is notorious for his bag-of-tricks approach laying boundaries of the norm aside in search of something, fresh, unique, and different. With the two rotating sets the night was a blend of everything to make for a not-so-average Sunday evening. Nappy Riddem on Fort Knox Recordings is on our radar for 2014 and they should be on yours as well.
