The 90s nostalgia tours are in full swing, and Goo Goo Dolls are one of the stalwarts that seem to consistently deliver in sheds across the country every summer. Not to imply that the Buffalo, NY band is only known for the 90s, of course, but many fans remember the days of Discmans and Nickelodeon when Goo Goo Dolls dominated the airwaves. As is the case with a lot of the bands from that era, it is really special seeing a younger generation of fans (oftentimes accompanied by their parents) coming to appreciate the music that is oftentimes 30+ years old. One things for certain, Goo Goo Dolls can write infectious pop-rock songs that have clearly stood the test of time, even if they do have the 90s sheen on them.

At Atlanta‘s Synovus Bank Amphitheater at Chastain Park, Dashboard Confessional kicked things off right around 7:30 PM, setting a reflective yet upbeat tone for the night. The amphitheater filled quickly, creating a buzz that only intensified as the sun dipped behind the southern sky.

Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik and fellow founding member / bassist / occasional singer Robby Takac hit the stage at 9:00 PM sharp, delivering a confident and polished performance from the first chord. The setlist struck the perfect balance between nostalgia and freshness, opening with fan favorites like “Naked” and “Slide,” which raised the energy immediately. The full setlist leaned heavily on their classic era (notably Dizzy Up the Girl and Gutterflower), while sprinkling in a few newer tracks from Magnetic.

Rzeznik was animated and fully-engaged, moving fluidly across the stage, interacting with both musicians and the crowd. Robby Takac brought infectious energy and charisma—even prompting groups to choose stage-left seating to catch his expressions.

This show was a stellar reminder that the Goo Goo Dolls remain a formidable force live—even nearly four decades into their career. The band honored their heritage while keeping the show dynamic high energy yet emotionally charged. Rzeznik’s vocal stamina, Robby’s onstage spark, and a tight setlist made for a deeply-satisfying evening.
