As festival co-founder Dave Frey just announced on Facebook Live, LOCKN’ Festival is pleased to announce its daily schedule as well as a number of new additions to its already incredible 2016 line-up. Now added to the four-day festival’s diverse bill is Peter Wolf (of the J. Geils band), Khruangbin, and The Wailers. Widely praised by fans and media for being among the best run and uniquely creative festivals in the country, LOCKN’ 2016 takes place August 25-28 on the beautiful Oak Ridge and LOCKN’ Farms in Arrington, Virginia. More announcements to come soon.
LOCKN’ 2016 will feature one of the most diverse line-ups in the festival’s four-year history, with Phish, Ween, and My Morning Jacket alongside a stellar bill that includes Brandi Carlile, Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Donna the Buffalo, EOTO (featuring members of The String Cheese Incident), Garcia’s Forest, Gary Clark Jr., Galactic, Hard Working Americans (featuring members of Widespread Panic and Chris Robinson Brotherhood), Joe Russo’s Almost Dead (2 late night sets), Keller’s Grateful Gospel, Keller’s Grateful Grass, Lettuce, Moon Taxi, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Turkuaz, Twiddle, Umphrey’s McGee, Vulfpeck, White Denim and more.
Phish will make its LOCKN’ debut with a two-night, four-set slot on Friday, August 26th and Sunday, August 28th– the band’s only festival performance in 2016. Ween will precede Phish on Friday night, with another LOCKN’ first timer, My Morning Jacket, topping the bill on Saturday, August 27th.
LOCKN’ will as usual feature an array of unprecedented performances and unique collaborations. Among this year’s highlights will be sets from Doobie Decibel System — featuring Jay Lane (Ratdog, Primus), Jason Crosby (Phil Lesh & Friends), and Dan Leibowitz (ALO, Phil Lesh & Friends) – as well as the first ever live show from Circles Around the Sun, a new band led by guitarist Neal Casal (Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, Chris Robinson Brotherhood) initially founded to record the extraordinary original music played during intermission at last year’s milestone Fare Thee Well concerts. Along with its emphasis on musical invention and environmental sustainability, LOCKN’ also features an array of other activities, from on-site camping, locally sourced food, and craft beer to lifestyle events, biking and hiking tours, daily yoga, SoberLOCKN’, family camping, and much more. “Garcia’s Tent,” a fan favorite at the previous two LOCKN’s, will expand this year into its own environment, to be known as “Garcia’s Forest.”
LOCKN’ is also home to Participation Row, a Social Action Village that serves as host and hub for a variety of non-profits, facilitating action and other involvement by LOCKN’ Festivalgoers. Participation Row at LOCKN’ is sponsored by Qello Concerts, the largest streaming library of live concerts and music documentaries.
Widely praised by fans and media as among the best run and most uniquely creative festivals in the country, LOCKN’ 2016 follows a 2015 event highlighted by several legendary artists performing two unique shows over two days, including Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters, Widespread Panic, The String Cheese Incident, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Gov’t Mule, and Phil Lesh & Friends (featuring special guest Carlos Santana). Among LOCKN’ 2015’s other once-in-a-lifetime artist collaborations were “‘Mad Dogs & Englishmen: A Tribute to Joe Cocker,” hosted by Tedeschi Trucks Band and featuring original band members Leon Russell and Rita Coolidge with Dave Mason, Chris Robinson, and Doyle Bramhall II, as well as “Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady Celebrate 50 Years of Jefferson Airplane,” featuring Rachael Price (of Lake Street Drive), GE Smith, Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams, and others. What’s more, the String Cheese Incident partnered with The Doobie Brothers as “The Doobie Incident” presenting the legendary band’s classic catalog in an unforgettable one-set-only performance.
From its inception, LOCKN’ quickly established itself as a national festival on par with the best in the country, hosting such iconic artists Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Willie Nelson, Wilco and many others. With LOCKN’ 2016, the festival continues to raise the bar for incomparable large-scale creative programming while affirming its reputation as one of the premiere American concert events of the summer.
